Disabled Hardware accelerator, what's the downside?

I had to disable \"Hardware Accelerator\" in Display Properties/Settings/Advance/Troubleshoot to get \"Jing\" to capture part of a video playing on WMP.

Is there any downside. If so I can disable it only when I'm using the Jing video capture utility.

BTW. If you haven't tried the FREE utility it works well although they're are others that I suppose do the same thing.

Yes there is a downside, it disables the hardware video overlay and requires your CPU to do more work. There are much better ways to edit and capture video than that, check www.doom9.org for more info on video.

Krom, on what occasions would that be a factor.

Krom, what product am I looking for on the site you suggested? Not familiar with editing, capturing...video, that's why I was using Jing. It was easy.

Check the guides, or ask on the doom9 forums, people who encode/convert video every day hang around places like that.

Also it really depends on what exactly you are trying to do as to which tools you should be using.
