Hey guys, I have recently received my license to appraise real estate and was wondering what the best way to get business would be. To advertise in the Atlanta Journal Constitution its like $60 I think for a Sunday, or I can do an entire week for $330. What kind of feedback do you think I would receive from the newspaper?

get your wedsite up and running, and get yourself into some "links" on other websites, going to a paper would also probably be a good idea. maybe some posters around town notice boards.

Find customers who from a single location hire, contract or recomend a property to be appraised.

Like in my business, almost everyone has a heatpump but trying to get every homeowner to hire me requires I convince a lot of individuals to hire me for the job.
On the other hand, one property management company requires I sell one person on my service one time and they send me on literally hundreds of service calls because from their one office they represent hundreds of heatpumps.

In your case find the law offices that do a lot of real estate closings and get to know the closing attorneys, or more to the source, the closing attorneys legal assistants, because they are the ones who will inform the buyers/sellers of the need for your services and will recommend someone to them.
Also real estate agents, they love to have all the answers for their clients so if they have your business card in their rolodex you will ultimately recieve their recomendation.

Word of mouth rules over expensive yellow page/magazine advertising. Get your name out to the people who do the hiring in person, go shake their hand put your face behind the name they see in print on your card.

Rapport. The best real estate agents I have met constantly were getting clients, often in unexpected situations. How? They constantly had unbelievable rapport. It's a tad slimey to me, but they'd make friends all over the ★■◆●ing place, supermarkets waiting in line, baseball games, and if the person feels friendly/comfortable with you, your chances of being chosen are very high.
