Graphics Problems

Post by substratus »

I'm currently having grapics problems with my computer. It works fine when I'm just using regular windows programs like internet browsers, office suites, etc. The problem occurs only when I'm trying to run 3d games.

What haapens is that the screen will intermittently “blackout” for periods (by blackout I mean the monitor loses the signal). Sometimes hitting keys or messing with the mouse will get it back, other times I have to alt-tab back to the desktop and then go back into the game. Sometimes these blackout happen almost instantly after getting the display back, other times it can last a few minutes before it blacks out.

I've tried reinstalling the driver but that didn't seem to work. I just installed as normal over top of what was already there so I suppose a bad file might still exist.

What does this problem sound like to you?

All I can think of is it has to either be Windows or the card. I don't have another PCI-E card to test with so I'm not sure what to try next.

OS: XP

i may be wrong, but i have heard that the 7950 has the worst reputation as a quality product.

blacking out with no signal indicates hardware failure

The card was bad.

The \"blackouts\" started getting worse even in regular windows screen, and sometimes with the screen never coming on at all at boot up.

So I got a new card and all is well.
