I have been scanning through topics and posts to find out how I can play D3 in Kali with the others. MD-2389 helped me some, but I can't keep waiting on him to show up when I'm there on the Descent server :P . I want to try to pla some D3 before my motivation dissolves.

Those of you who play D3 through Kali, got any tips?

I'll help. Here's how I do it:

First, make sure you have the D3 icon in kali configured to your Descent 3 main.exe file.

Second, go to Internet Games (below Chat Servers in Kali) and double click on Descent 3. In the Miscellaneous category should be at least 20 games from servers such as DIII. Double click on the server you want and Descent 3 should start up and immediately enter the game.

I think there is a command line option for Descent 3 that allows you to use a specific pilot file when entering the game. You'll probably want to designate the pilot file to use.

If you're having an issue, then state the specific problem and we'll help you.

yeah. what JF said. I wouldn't recommend a P2P game on Kali though. We tried it years ago and the person hosting pretty much rules the game. It burps a bit too.

I tried exactly what JF says. When it was connecting, it stops suddenly and takes me to the D3 menu. I go to IPX and I get this message saying that IPX is not active on my system. Could this be the reason why i can't see any game?

So, i'm trying to play D3 in Kali, but whenever I join, it creates a new pilot, No Name, even though I have designated my main pilot for internet games. Any tips?

oh yeah.. jeez. how did I get around that...

Ok, right clik on the icon and go to \"config\".

in Cmd Line Arg: Clik the \"MORE\" button to the right of the box.

Insert all your line commands that you normally use in the Descent configure setup panel. Use them in the first two boxes. there is also a command line that you can define which pilot you use.
here it is.
-pilot <name>

Still no name, Duper. I don't understand why. I even verified that there is no mispelling.

here's exactly what I put in:
-pilot kiran -joypolled -dynamicsockets

(these are what was alrdy set up in d2).

I tried MD's original cmd lines and they didn't work. When I copied and pasted into my d3 config from d2 config, everytime i go into d3, the command line goes to <advanced>. That help at all?

where do you have the game config pointed? Can you cut and paste or maybe post a screenshot?

I remember having the same trouble. I just can't remember what I did to remedy it. (there IS an answer!) :)

Oh, what version of Kali are you using? The Newest is borked.

We're using XP 2.613 for Kali.

Tell ya what, I'm gonna wait until I get my gaming computer back. We're going to be moving into our house next week and up to this put I've been using DK's computer for gaming. Why put down all the efforts when I'll be starting fresh with my own computer? :P I'll post in a few weeks to see where we're at... I probably have the game installed but I remember it being weird so I'm going to reinstall the game.

Thanks for the help, peeps. :D

Kiran, why not download Vortex Chat and use it to find games?

That or KQuery. It's not officially supported but still works.

Merlin, you have a link for that. Mine is outdated.
