I have a dimension 4600, and the PS's fan is sounding wonky, I was wondering if I have to get a replacement from dell or could I just go out and buy a PS.

A standard ATX power supply worked fine for my Dimension 4700. Not sure about the 4600.

If you don’t mind the work…just replace the fan. It’s pretty easy.

Also some PS's need to have their leads changed to work in some DELL's. (from what I heard)

Beware of Dell's, they altered the motherboards on a lot of models and swapped two of the power pins. You use a regular PSU and kerZAP.

I do tech support for dell, as long as you get a PSU that supports Micro ATX boards, you will be fine.

That is correct, this is a 4600? not a 4600C correct? And since most ATX PSU's support micro ATX boards, your fine either way.

4600s and 4700s are pretty similar as I recall, and a generic ATX PSU worked for my 4700.
