Armed Mexican Troops Arrested After Straying Into Arizona

U.S.border agents arrested seven Mexican soldiers who strayed across the border in Arizona Friday morning.

The U.S. Border Patrol received reports of a Humvee driving north along the Colorado River near Yuma and U.S. Customs sent a helicopter to investigate, the Arizona Star in Tucson reported. The soldiers told the border patrol they got disoriented and took a wrong turn.

The soldiers were disarmed and taken into custody without incident, the Arizona Star said. They were returned to Mexico via San Luis after a background check.

This is the second incursion across the Arizona-Mexico border in three months, according to the newspaper. In August, four men dressed in military uniforms held a U.S. border agent at gunpoint north of the border, 85 miles from Tucson.

I remember a guy that used to play D3- pilot name was \"Ages\" - was a border patrol agent that saw this kind of thing all the time. For some reason, the US gov didn't want to create \"incidents\" when clear violations of the border happened with armed Mexican troops several times. Some perhaps really were misunderstandings- but more than likely there are corrupt bands of troops working with drug/human smugglers.

I never could understand it either. I grew up in El Paso and we used to take our 4x4 trucks out into the desert where the Texas, New Mexico and Mexican borders meet. We had keg parties and hunted camped out and just generally ruled the desert out there.
now I'm told you don't go out there day or night because it's worse than cruising the streets of Baghdad!

I understand avoiding an occasional international incident but El Paso has become sanctuary for the rich Mexicans trying to avoid kidnapping and the border crossings are completely under the control of the Mexican criminals. It's as if we've rolled back our borders 500 miles!!

I went to Western Hills Elementary, Morehead Middle, moved to South Carolina for junior high and freshman through first half of junior year of high school--
Moved to Westport Connecticut finish junior year then back to El Paso to Coronado High School to finish senior year but had to go to El Paso High for extra classes at night because I didn't have Texas history or enough math credits.
Four high schools in three states class of 78

Then on to University of Texas at El Paso where I dropped out after the freshman year to compete with Eddie Van Halen for guitar god...he won...I moved on to real life.
I moved back to South Carolina in '84

I lived at 925 Broadmoor Dr. just up the mountain from Coronado High School.
El Paso was a great place to grow up, a lot of epic times there. In my heart I'll always be an El Paso boy living in the south, Horale!

I wasn't too far away from ya. I lived on Mariposa off El Puente just across the arroyo from Coronado HS from around 1978-1999.
