Back in 1987 the band The Scorpians had a album jacket featuring a nude prepubescent girl (and no I won't link it. The album cover was banned in the Us. Mostly recently the UK banned any wiki linkage thru the UK's browser system.

Now I have to ask, what is the difference between the banned album jacket and the movie Pretty Baby starring Brooke Shields? Ms Shields was what? Eleven years old?
In the movie she was fully nude, yet the film was not banned and is still available at the movie rental places. In neither the film nor the album cover, each girl was not put in a sexually compromising situation yet one was banned and the other was not.

I've wondered the same thing about prostitution vs pornography. In both cases someone is getting paid to have sex. The only difference I can see is that with pornography there's a camera involved.

Filming of pornography can be (and is) taxed, prostitution for the most part avoids taxation by nature. Although that is far from the only reason it definitely makes a big difference from the governments perspective.

It will always be a lot harder to make something illegal if it is a source of tax revenue, just look at smoking.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the reverse can be true. The prison industry is highly profitable, so in general it is in that powerful lobby's best interest to keep demand for prisons high. Which also requires some convenient moral scapegoats like drug users, prostitutes, etc.

It’s prolly a “German” thing, because although by Europe’s standards the UK is a little prudish, it’s certainly still pretty liberal, by US’s standards.

And by “German thing” I mean the rivalry, if you can call it that.

Because Hollywood donates to politicians and RCA Records and German Heavy Metal groups don't ?

Remember the movie 'Blue Lagoon'? Little Brooke was 14 going on 15 when that one was released in 1980 and she was naked in that as well and which ALSO involved sex scenes. There was a big controversy to ban or censor it, but that went nowhere. He who has the money can grease the proper skids.
