With or without taking apart the laptop?

Without.
I would like to use it when working on another computer since I don't have much desk space.

I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t involve opening it up and accessing the display directly…sorry.

I suppose you could VNC or Remote Desktop to the Tower ... this letting you use and manipulate the desktop of the Tower without having to have a monitor actually attached to the Tower. Requires network connection to the tower.

I do use LogMeIn once I get things up and running but at the beginning when \"Restoring\" or installing a new OS.
I may have to breakdown and buy an flat screen so I can get this 17\" CRT out of here.
The problem with that is they're making them bigger and better and I'd like about a 15\" or less.
Oh well....thanks for the input.

Generally speaking, how difficult is it with dismantling an old laptop? Because I have a couple old laptops lying around that either have some critical hardware failure or are past their time that I might try it with sometime if it isn't too difficult...

Interesting idea ... however to do that with a laptop's display you would still have to figure out how to attach power to the display (it's gotta come from somewhere), and you'd have to fashion a data signal connector because what is used inside the laptop is not the kind of connector you'd use to connect to the desktop.

The hardware is NOT compatible with a regular desktop card.
However, if it still runs, you can use it as an \"extended\" desktop with a piece of software called Synergy.
