Share folders from/to XP and Vista

I tried to share XP folders and printer with Vista laptop. No problem.

But I was unable to share Vista stuff with the XP machine.

They had different work groups if that makes a difference and when I looked for folders for Vista on the XP comp a workgroup appeared but requested a username and password to go further. As far as I know we never issued a password and there was no way to bypass it.

Should I \"unshare\" everything and try to get both comps in the same group? If so how would I do that?

Any ideas on the password problem.

use the login/pass of the account that shared the folder on vista.

Don't recall using a login/pass.

create an account on both vista and xp machines that have the same login.

Run Network setup wizard and make a completely new workgroup name. Turn off password protect on shares in Vista, Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center, and under the Sharing and Discovery heading, simply turn off password protected sharing. Depending on the XP version you can turn on/off simplified file sharing in Pro but not Home.

Reboot, rinse, and repeat.

If that doesn't work I'll dig up a registry entry that may work.
