What would you do?

I hear a lot of bickering about the stimulus package, but nothing about what they'd do to fix it - or in replace of it. What would you do if you were in charge?

Set up clearing houses and lend the bailout money directly to people for big ticket items, bypassing the banks.
And forget the stimulus.
Get to the root of the problem, start selling houses and cars again…and everything else will take care of itself.
You see the reason banks won’t lend is very simple…they don’t want to let go of all those properties while the market is depressed.
Think about it…you own a house you want to sell, and you are going to finance the buyer, but the going price is less than you paid for it…would you lend money to someone to buy that house at a loss…no of course not.
EDIT:
Oh, and if we still “really” need a stimulus, I would sell “Bonds for Infrastructure”.

Reduce taxes to near zero on middle class on down. That alone would accomplish the same thing without going into debt.

First I'd cut out all the crap that isn't really stimulus...which would be 90% of it.
There, I just saved us all $900,000,000,000!
Then I'd remind the public that the government can't
spend our way free of market corrections.
Then I'd create a lot of instant economic growth opportunities by insisting on the implementation of the FairTax plan which would cause tons of money to return to America, just by way of the capital gains tax disappearing overnight the world would immediately start moving their investments into our markets because even comparing identical returns between two funds/stocks/markets/commodities/etc.etc. the return on your investment in America is suddenly 30% better due to the non taxable status.
Then I'd put in big tax incentives for home buyers to prop up the mortgage market along with holding interest rates very low and put a moratorium on foreclosures except for speculators (they took the risk, they get the loss).
I'd find a way to hang Barney Frank and Chris Dodd by the neck until dead in the public square for their part in treasonous destruction of the housing market.
Then I'd get some dinner and call it a day enjoying the remarkable rally on Wall Street the next morning during breakfast...and then probably decide to do not much more other than to explain to the people why these steps worked and how foolish they were to have supported those thieves who tried to push the non-stimulus package on us in the first place.

Start impeachment hearings on 535 members of congress. Consider indicting 1/2 of those on treason charges.

yes as we can see Wall Street thought the Stimulus package was such a great Idea it tanked again. the Government has accomplished exactly 2 things by passing this bill
1. mortgage our future and PROBABLY collapse our economy in 5 years.
2. established an Insurance policy for big business screw-ups, they don't need to care if they suck as business men now, they'll get a bailout.
no good can come of this bill. this Stimulus needs a Viagra pill because it was limp before it ever started.
+2 Will you nailed it

One thing I would not do:
\"President Barack Obama has slammed high-flying executives traveling in cushy jets at a time of economic turmoil. But soon he will have to decide whether to proceed with some of the priciest aircraft in the world — a new fleet of 28 Marine One helicopters that will each cost more than the last Air Force One.\"
28??? WTF does one man need 28 helicopters for? Three I could see as you need a couple of back-ups, but 28?
Helicopters are only for going to Edwards AFB or camp David. So why do big companies have to give up their corporate jets when Alfred E. can have a fleet of expensive transportation. Come on Obama, use public transport like everyone else. You have Joe \"Flip Lip\" Biden to take over if anything happens.

Why not add a few more, and have one for every day of the week, just like underwear.
