Upgraded to IE8 on g/fs laptop and everytime I start it, it openms to a Welcome to IE8 Optimized for Yahoo page. The homepage is set to something else but it won't go there.

I've even tried removing the registry entry that marks that site but still doesn't help.

Any ideas?

IE8 has the ability (just like IE7) to have more than one page selected to be opened when you start it.

To be sure of resetting the home page to JUST the page you want, be sure you only have ONE tab open and that tab is to the site you want for the home page. THEN tell it to use that page for the home page.

Tried that MANY times. It only comes up with one tab but always (no matter what teh home page is set to) brings us to that page.

If I remember correctly, the IE8 introduction/optimized page has some settings selections for you. I assume you've stepped through those selections? (I'm sure you have, but needed to ask.)

After the browser is up, what happens when you click on the Home button? Does it still come to that optimization page? Or does it come up to your chosen home page?

Yes I've gone thru the settings the first time I ran it. If I hit the home page it brings me to what we set as home page.

have you tried using \"blank\"?

Since it comes up with that options settings page each time but when you press the Home button it goes to your specified home page ... It appears it's not saving those initial settings (obviously) ... so ...

Perhaps you need to reset the Internet Explorer settings so that it can return to defaults and try again. To do that, go to your Internet Options, Advanced, and at the bottom of the dialog should be a \"Reset...\" button. Click that then exit Internet Explorer (make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are shut down) then bring Internet Explorer back up.

More IE reset instructions ... look here

If that doesn't help, I'd suggest checking out Microsoft's Community Answer Forum for Internet Explorer found here.

Tried the blank home page and did same thing. Reset IE to defaults and still does it.

click the reset button under advanced tab under IE/Internet Options

then delete the yahoo BHO object

Or better yet Uninstall yahoo and use Miranda IM

Don't have Yahoo IM installed. Have checked the reset button already and it didn't help.

Welp ... Either uninstall (followed by a re-install) or else use that Microsoft forum I linked earlier.

Did both already. What a pain. I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks
