Doesn't look bad, just LGA775 is a dead end socket now.

Looks to be a good board if you've got a chip already, I never use the evga brand on motherboards though. but if you're building new I'd get something newer. Its a bit pricey for being last generation too.

eVGA has made their mark on me as a quality brand, i have a eVGA card and have used it solid for 2 years now, without a hiccup. you guys remember my new PC thread right? well i had a change of plans, when my tv got broken by my collapsing entertainment center
and took the DVD player with it.
so now im getting a new TV, new DVD and new SOLID wood entertainment center, so i have to spend out of the new pc money to get this stuff, i reconfigured my build list, because the DFI board that i originally wanted is showing about all bad reviews. and everyone is saying that DFI is pooping on them.
so once i build back up my funds im going to get this board with the following:

Although the hardware platform you're buying is dying, the collection of parts looks awesome, m8.
And DDR3 is kind of expensive these days. x_x

The Q9550 should be a fair bit cheaper and only be marginally slower than the 9650. I'd also go for an Intel chipset board over the nVidia. If you can afford to wait another 6 months or so, Intel will be launching the Nehalem replacements for the Core 2 Duos/Quads the Core i5s. They should be faster again and not cost much more. DDR3 should be cheap enough to be worth buying over DDR2 at that point as well.

the 200 dollar board is slightly better, has a faster fsb, maybe a bell or a whistle more, but I doubt you'll see a siginificant difference between it and the cheaper model.

Cheaper one takes DDR2 (compared to DDR3 on the more expensive one).

Personally, I wouldn't get an EVGA board. I would get an ASUS, MSI, or DFI before I get an EVGA; it's a matter of preference and personal experience with various brands, though.

I think EVGA has some work to do on their boards, higher failure rates. Admiral LSD has some spot on advice Ace.

yes i know, i have Vista Ultimate ready to order in the list of parts.
i go ahead and get the better board and swap out for DDR3

DFI with the board i wanted to get has some very poopy support and according to everyone minus a couple of reviews are saying that DFI has even worse poopy customer support.
changed back to the Q9550

I once RMAed an MSI board, and I was very surprised at their warranty service. The return was processed in a week or less and sent a replacement board that was a near identical model.
In my experience, MSI boards are great run for the money and they last a long time.

I would save your money on the vista ultimate and wait for windows 7. Pick up a copy of XP pro for now for less than 100 bux oem from 9software.

im slightly bit offset to this due to almost non-existent drivers

drivers were non-existant like, 3 years ago. There are drivers now. Just not for older combo printers.

XP 64 bit is not true 64 bit. It is 64-bit emulation, rather than native 64-bit operation. This is according to what my tech school instructor told me in class that I took 2 years ago.

seriously, how often are you going to find yourself typing in the dark?

AceCombat:
If you want a good keyboard, get a Saitek Eclipse. I own one and after a year it is still in superb condition. No worn keys, the backlight is still night and pretty, and it holds up to any abuse I throw at it.

Half the keys on my keyboard are worn off so I can't read it day or night.

i play daily at night on BF2 till midnight or later sometimes

I have an eclipseII and love it. The keys do wear, but not much, my n and e keys have worn a bit but I've had it a long time. No other wear on the keys. The light is not so bright that its blinding at night, you have a choice of colors and you can turn it down or off if you like. Aside from the light, its very comfortable to type on also.

He didn't say "at night", he said "in the dark". You might play until midnight and gone but surely you can just flip a switch in your room and have the whole place bathed in glorious light meaning you don't need a pointless and gimmicky backlit keyboard.

actually i dont play in light, it is dark. i dont like glare off my screen especially seeing myself while im killing my enemies.
Posted: Tue Apr 28, 2009 10:13 pm
by fliptw
are you using a plasma screen?
regardless, diffussion will reduce glare, or switch to an LCD screen.

there are cheaper solution's to cut down glare than a fancy keyboard.
buying the keyboard means you will get glare from the keyboard too.

Not if the finish/polish is done opaque or matte-like enough to absorb or not directly reflect the light like the Eclipse does.

Or putting a small 40 watt lamp behind you and off to one side far enough that it won't reflect off the screen nor shine in your eyes. I use that all the time at night so I'm not in a completely dark room with a computer monitor in my face, and yes I have a CRT (although it is flat, not a bubble monitor).

i prefer to be in the dark anyways, but thanks for the ideas
