For all those who wish to not get infected, here is a self-updating map of the disease's spread across the globe.
152 people have already died because of this flu.
The United States and Mexico are both equally infected.

I got the Hong Kong Flu in 1972 and it was no picnic. One solid week of HELL! This new strain of Swine Flu seems to be hitting young adults worse than children and older people for some reason.
I heard that Obama may be stirring up a little more fear in order to get Congress to give more funding to the CDC. It was something about a chunk of money set aside for the CDC that Lieberman, Specter and two other Congressmen took out of Obama's spending bill? Not sure.

Read this book:
Scary stuff, but it goes into a lot of detail on why that stain of flu hit healthy young adults harder than anyone.
My wifes great grandfather died in that epidemic.

Funny how, symptom wise, it's pretty much the same as the normal flu...

Ha! NOT my fault. And I'm not a prognosticator. The news about Swine flu was already out when I posted, it just wasn't this big yet.
The Swine flu may blow over. The last few big bird flu scares blew over as fairly small impacts. BUT, it may not. We are very ripe for a pandemic. Just no way to tell if this is it yet.

Aw geeze... TN got its first case of the swine flu in Nashville and it is only a few hours away. Some people here are panicking now cuz a group of students from our county just visited Mexico 2 wks ago.
What's next? Everyone's going to shun the Mexicans at first sight now?

The flu can be a big deal, but if you look up the stats, the regular flu kills something like 35000 people a year in the US alone.
This flu is still under 200 worldwide, so for now, I look at it as media hype and overkill, kinda like Y2K and the bird flu.
I'll worry when it's obvious there's something to worry about.
I'm traveling cross country right now getting ready to go hang out in crowded rooms in Texas. We'll see what happens.

Heh. Our county schools are shut down this week. A student was sick with the flu and last week the state lab stated it was very similiar, but not confirmed.
Sheesh, why can't they do this with the regular flu?

What I do find interesting is how spread out the \"swine flu\" cases are. Just one random person per region. It's serious because nobody's got a vaccine against it, but so far, it's really not that bad. And seriously, if you're sick, just stay home, don't drink soda, drink plenty of Water, hot tea, and Orange juice. Have soups and berries and most of all, get PLENTY of rest.
Probably the reason these people get so sick is because they're too busy to take care of themselves.

I find the press and doctor admonition to always 'cover your mouth when you sneeze' good in practice but a really bad idea when it's not explained by the media doctors the proper way to do it.
Most people will use their hands to cover their mouths when they sneeze. REALLY BAD IDEA! WHY? Because they just transfered all their virus laden spittle to their hands, which will then facilitate the spread of the virus by either hand to hand or hand to surface contact.
The proper way to sneeze is either into a handkerchief (once only, after one use, it's contaminated) or into the crook or armpit of your arm, well away from your hands. Of course, a lot of people don't even wash their hands after going to the bathroom, so viruses will continue to spread. Also, teaching kids proper hygiene is next to impossible, so they will always be the vector for spreading illnesses.
