Posted this on \"That\" other board but will also post here:

Well I was starting to think Sotomayor might be a palatable choice up until she was asked questions on the 2nd amendment. What was really disturbing was when asked \"Do we have the right to defend ourselves\" She couldn't respond because there was no legal precedent. When asked what her personal opinion was she again had no answers. Now if she needs a legal precedence to form her opinion how the hell can she sit on the highest court and render\\vote when if asked a simple question like \"Do we have the right to defend ourselves\" and has no answer because there is no legal precedence, then how will she be able to function?

Completely agree, Woodchip. This was what her whole record seemed to indicate. Not a racial bias or anything dramatic like that, but just that she is a stickler to precedent and is kind of afraid to think for herself. Not sure if you would want someone like this on a supreme court.

it seems she is having issues having an opinion
Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma pushed Sotomayor to express her opinions on whether certain abortions would be legal and whether a person has a fundamental right to possess firearms and a right to self-defense. Each time, Sotomayor said she would need to know the specifics of a particular case, such as applicable state statutes and other facts.

yeah, i saw that this morning before going to work. Man, she was ALLL over the place. Would not/ or could not give a simple yes or no answer. I guess she was afraid of saying the wrong thing. ... even if that's the case, that is not a trait you want in a Supreme Justice.
