What games should Shadow Lan carry?

I'm asking you all to tell me what games you think people would be interested in playing multiplayer. I know some people will be biased toward Descent, but I'm not including it due to the fact that most of the public has never heard of it... Anyway, please answer the poll if you can.

yeah, descent3 favored lan centers wouldnt make much money
i think you should run them all, and add call of duty, farcry, painkiller, ut2k4, and anything else thats popular right now.

it crackes me up that you'd ask this questions of descent'ers. Try asking your clients at the business. print 3x5 (or 4 per page regular paper and clip) and on it ask this question. Have them drop the answers ina coffee can or something ont he way out.

I agree with Merlin. Racing games are fun in a multi-player format.

Pick the top few games in each genre.
War3 and AoM for RTSs
Far Cry, UT2004, Quake 3 (maybe), Battlefield 1942 for FPSs
I don't know any popular racing games
Something else that would help would be to install the popular mods. Desert Combat for BF1942 is almost a must. The Q3 players would want CPMA and OSP (and possibly RA3).
And stay far, far away from Counterstrike. It attracts the wrong type of person.

Papyrus and Electronic Arts both make a lot of very good racing games. NASCAR 4, Sportscar GT, Legends of F1. The list could go on and on.

1) UT2K4
2) BF:V
3) BF:42
--including mods DC, I82, EoD
4) Counter-Strike : CZ
5) Nascar Racing 4
--With Trans-Am Corvettes & CTS add-ons from
www.projectwildfire.com
Those would be the games I would hope to see at a comercial gaming establishment.

Midnight Club II - This racing game is a blast! I'd suggest checking out the demo, TB: it's not the most realistic racing sim around, but with ramps, car weight transfer control, power-ups that can be used against opponents, and nitro, it can be a lot of fun. There are cars AND motorcycles in this game (there's also a vehicle that sort of resembles the Batmobile).
(Unfortunately, there is a bug that makes multiplayer traffic appear out of nowhere at times for everyone but the server. Traffic can be disabled, though.)

you have to think in terms of what would make money. you are in it to make money right? counterstrike would probably be your best bet. ignore the racing games unless its a riceboy game. nfs:underground would be popular. however, if you had racing wheels it would be another story... THEN it would attract some players. if you dont have them, dont expect much of anyone to play a racing title. you could probably toss in a few ea sports games, madden, nhl, nba live, whatever. i'd focus on ground pounders though. and yes, mods that are popular is another good idea.

For starters, you should go here to see what most people are playing:
http://www.gamespyarcade.com/games/
Once you get a solid base of games to attract your clientel, ask them what they want.

Yeah, I wouldn't limit it to those four. Get as many as you can so you'll have a more wide variety for people to choose from....and you better have Descent on there.

Can't go wrong with UT2004 in Onslaught mode. That'd be a hoot in a large LAN environment.

I second the UT2004 suggestion. Great game, much better than 2003. Onslaught and Assault are lots of fun, as well as Team Deathmatch and CTF.
I don't really play any other genres regularly, but I have played a couple of racing games on a LAN. Lots of fun; you should definitely include soom good titles.
And since we're speaking of your LAN center... I'm going to college in Longview, TX, so I'll be dropping by a few times during my stay. WOOT!

Well we usually play a lot of games at LAN parties around here, and by the end of the night, the games have conglomerated into just a few that seem to be the most popular:
UT2004
UT-GOTY
BF1942
Starcraft
Usually in that order. Which is strange, seeing that Starcraft and UT GOTY are really old.

Hmm... More votes for 1942 than Vietnam... Oh well, like I say, give it a few months when the new patch and Point of Existence (new mod, modern day combat, like Desert Combat) all get released. Then this game will kick even more tail.
