I'm looking for an old machine to become my permanent router. I dont really feel like messing with a linksys or dlink router becaue it just wouldnt be as customizeable. I'd like a computer that can meet the following specs:

Processor: Intel or AMD, grater than 200MHz
RAM: 96 Megs or greater
Hard Drive: 3 Gigabytes or greater
CD-ROM: Any speed, as long as the computer can boot from CD.
LAN: I have several 10/100's laying around to use, but any lan card that comes with it wouldnt hurt
Sound: None, strip it out, dont need sound for a router :P
Video: I dont care, as long as it can do 640 or 800 or something.

So um, any of you got a computer like this that you dontwant anymore that's still functional? If so, how much you want for it?

Well, I've got a K6-2 450 sitting around that I can leave 128MB in. Its got a 10GB Western Digital (ATA66 capable) and I can drop the old HP 7200i burner into it (2x2x6). I don't have any NICs laying around though. The video is a 2MB Cirrus Logic (PCI, can do 1024x768 @ 85Hz easily). Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-5AA (Rev 2.2). This is the machine that I use as a spare box to tinker with Linux on. Everything works fine and is in excellent condition. Its yours for $150 shipped (FedEx Express Saver).

Processor: AMD K6-2 333mhz
RAM: 256 PC133
Hard Drive: 4 gb
CD-ROM: 32X i think
LAN: usb external nic
Sound:crappy integrated along with dialup modem
Video: 16meg voodoo3

That would do nicely, except I wouldnt want the external USB nic. More than likely its only USB1/1.1 Complient and thus very limited in its actual useablity. Can you get a little more specific about the motherboard? Make/model? And more importantly, how many expansion slots and what type?

Oh yeah, how big is its case?

Also, what would you be asking?

just found another old box I have here.

It's a Dell Optiplex XM590 (Pentium 90 OC'd to P100) with 64 megs, intigraded video, cd rom, floppy, nic (10/100), 64 megs and a <1 gig hard drive. It all works and it's in the box. It's your's for shipping also

I used to use this for emulation (a method) bootleg satallite before the stopped using the H cards.

Hmmm. I'd like at least 166. I'd still like to find a case and hdd for that mobo of yours, or that k6 system that zerocool has would be more than enough if he would post again.

uhhh...whats shipping cost? I'll pay something slightly above that...like I dunno..$10 above shipping? You got the drives free didnt you, after all?

ill get the shipping price for ya, you prefer a shipping carrier? if not ill send it USPS

Posted: Sat May 15, 2004 10:02 pm
by Avder
Whatever is cheapest. All three carriers can deliver to my campus, but um, hmm. Summer session doesnt start until June, so I'm not entirely sure if anyone will be wroking the mail room. I might have you ship to my actual "home" address instead. In which case you would be shipping to Zip code 56572, and using either UPS or USPS.

Yeah, check that out. Hmm...you posted that one up there 8 days ago...oops. Hum. $5 plus shipping sounds good, but wait until you check out the pentium systems. Maybe we can work something out.
