I am wanting to upgrade my Socket 939 4600+ to either a AM2/AM2+/AM3 CPU, and get either DDR2 RAM or DDR3 ram, I am wanting to keep around $300, any recomedations?

So I am needing the CPU, Mobo, and RAM

AMD has some quad cores that come in at $99, although you would probably get a lot more immediate kick out of a higher clocked dual core with only $300 to spend. I'd lean towards a DDR2 setup because DDR2 is cheaper than DDR3 and its quantity that matters the most these days so long as it runs at the CPUs optimal spec. You should be able to get 4 GB of decent DDR2 for $50-60, spend another $100 on the CPU and sink the rest into the mobo.

Just be cautious about your existing PSU compatibility, you don't want a surprise $70-120 PSU expense hitting on top of it all.

This is my current layout.

CPU

Motherboard

RAM

I know the RAM isnt DDR2, but i figure i might as well start at low end DDR3 and upgrade later on.

That looks reasonable, I don't know if a quad core is really necessary right now or any time in the near future but it won't hurt. ;)

Just keep an eye on your PSU, if its 500w or less I would seriously consider replacing it with a 600-700w unit from a reputable brand before you upgrade.
