Distibution Service 3 update problem

I saw this was happening last year but not sure how to help my friend. Here's his e-mail.

\"I am having problems when ever I get a Microsoft Software Dist Service 3,0 update. These up dates are coming along weekly. The last one on Oct 18,2009, screwed up my AT&T/Yahoo DSL Internet. I had to go back to the restore point the day it updated itself to get back to a usable Internet.

How can I repair the Internet service and still get the \"benefits\" of the Microsoft updates, if there areany \"benefits\". Who can I complain to about this problem?

I have Windows XP, SBCglobal DSL service, and useMozila Firefox as my brower.\"

didnt know you could get MS Updates while using FF? thought you had to use IE for MS Updates

Yes, you have to use IE with the Microsoft Update site (or a browser that poses as IS [insert reference to Maxthon browser ] ... but the Windows OS's Update service doesn't require IE to be your default browser because it doesn't use the web browser to get the updates.
