Hey gang,

This is Thrasher317/Iusekeys just stopping by to say \"hey.\" I can't believe the Descent community is still alive and kicking these days. That's awesome. Last game I played was about '02 in college. Right now I have a mac and am running windows xp via boot camp, so I'm thinking about trying to get descent working on this bad boy. I still have to figure out all the steps with d1x or whatever it was haha. If any of you guys know a website that has the steps laid out that would be great. I'm trying to get the demo to work just to see if this mac kb will even handle all my fingers. Stupid gaming keyboards with multikey cost close to $200 now. Anywho, if things go well and I figure out my old Kali info, I may drop in for some games in the somewhat near future. I miss this game lots and it's still the best multiplayer game I've ever played. Talk to you guys soon!

Well hi there!

You can find out about DXX-Rebirth (D1X or D2X) here!
http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/

The big cheese of this program, Zico, is hard at work making a new update for Rebirth. The new one will include it's own tracker so you don't have to worry about the tried and true Kail. The currant version is 55.1

You can also get D2X-XL. It's more of a super mod for D2 where it completely overhauls the gameplay and updates the graphics. I have been able to play it a few times, but unfortunately it is very unstable and I have reinstalled the program several times and it still doesn't work.. Your computer will probably not even be able to get 5 seconds of gameplay. It just requires so much of your computer.

If you want to play Descent 3 online, this is a good program that is easy to use. It includes a tracker, command line options, and chat rooms (I usually hang out in the descentforum.net chat room along with friendly others). It's Vortex!

Umm... just to clarify, D2X-XL scales pretty much anywhere between 10-year-old machines (with all the pretty features turned off at least) to near-supercomputers (i.e. what's required to get good framerates on per-pixel lighting). Well, at least pretty recent machines/GPUs of course.

If it's crashing, it isn't related to \"requiring a lot of your computer\" though; programs don't crash for that reason (they may run slowly, but they will keep running). D2X-XL does seem to swing from unstable to stable and back again occasionally as the versions roll on though. It should be better than it used to be - at least, it is for me - but as always your mileage may vary... it seems everyone has a different story about how well it works for them.

Agreed. Just play whatever you like. I've used both D2X-XL and D2X-Rebirth, they both run just fine. Descent3 still runs as-is on anything up through Win7.
