So i have a WinXP Laptop. Got a new laptop (Same make/model) wth Windows7. Owner wants XP put on it. So I made an image of the Win7 laptop and want to dual-boot my current system.

I partitioned the HD 50/50, XP on one - 7 on the other.

But - Win7 won't boot. I am guessing that its because it was not a fresh Install onto that partition - it was instead a restored image.

Anyone have any ideas on that?

You need to have Windows 7 install its boot loader on to the primary partition so it can pick which OS you want to boot. The XP boot loader won't be able to do it.

Once in windows 7, is there a way to extract its boot loader ?

I can load the image onto a Vitural Machine and do it that way if its possible.

If this is a modern laptop, you could just run windows 7 or XP in a virtual machine.

Typically it is done with the recovery console or the Windows 7 setup disk.
