I really like kabikaboo's UI for taking notes. But I feel like it's underdeveloped even for an opensource program. Is there a similar \"notes\" application that has more tools?

Hadn't heard of that one. Now I'll have to examine yet another....

I seen a few that attempt to be \"the killer writer's notes tool\" or some such nonsense (my oldest son, myself, and my wife all write ... and my son wants to make a career of it) but few were much help. There was one tool that nearly did it but sadly I don't remember the name of it. I do know it was billed as a journal for writers.

Something that has worked well for me (and also my son) has been software that's fairly distraction free. Stuff like WriteMonkey and DarkRoom.

I ended up just using Word.

If by script-writing you mean screen-plays / TV Scripts then there is a set format that needs to be followed (several formats really - depending upon the country of origin) in order to have production companies / Directors / Film Financiers take your project seriously.

Word does the job admirably, but other tools exist however like Celtx and Final Draft which not only help you format the script but have functions that can separate out the actor's movements, props, locations etc. for the pre-production team to work with.

There are other programs like Zhura and Movie Magic that others swear by, but most of the people I have worked with prefer Final Cut. It's not the cheapest software out there, but there are open-source alternatives (eg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sc ... g_software )

No but that would be handy. I wouldn't mind getting something that was specialized to do that sort of thing. Thanks.

Writemonkey and darkroom look pretty nice.

Right now I use a mind map program (freemind) and open office for writing notes.

I also have Tomboynotes which has a cool feature where you can link to another note by writing its title. The title being the first line of each note.
It also has spell check.
