Two drives now report as the same one?

I had to replace my BIOS backup battery in my DELL Dimension XPS, Now in the setup menu both of the factory installed SATA drives have the same ID#, But do report as Drive 0 & 1.

They also have the same number in control panel (system). I’m pretty sure they had 2 different numbers before in control panel, and the Mfg's name as well, but I can’t say for sure about the BIOS. (although this is from memory, so I can’t be sure)

Window Explorer does see them as two different drives (C & D), and everything seems to be working ok.

Is this normal, or did I miss something?

Whats disk management say? (start ---> run ---> \"diskmgmt.msc\" [without quotes]).

Well, are they the same drives? Same manufacturer, same model, same size? Seems pretty obvious to me. You must have two matching drives in that machine.

Well yes, they are matching drives…but I could have sworn that they had different “ID numbers” listed in setup before I changed the battery.

It’s probably not a problem, I just want to make sure.

I think your \"ID numbers\" are really the \"Model numbers\". Makes sense they would have the same model number if they are the same drives.

Yeah that is just the model number in device manager, perfectly normal when you have two identical drives.

Thanks

Had to make sure...getting paranoid in my old age.
