It's out there; people are using it. What have you encountered regarding HTML5?
Youtube has a HTML5 beta experiment they're running.
http://www.youtube.com/html5
After I activate the little link at the bottom, so it says, \"You are currently in the HTML5 beta\", youtube videos stop using flash.
I was Blown away!
Flash support for Linux is terrible. For the first time ever in Linux I could watch 720p videos with no frame rate problems at all. Flash would get worse as the flash object became larger forcing me to not use fullscreen. It doesn't matter what size the HTML5 video player is. There is no frame rate lag in Linux. Goodbye flash and I hope the world switches to HTML5 tomorrow.

It's also not done yet, and not entirely supported by many, if any, browsers. As it nears completion (and for the years following that) HTML5 will increase in importance and likely deprecate Flash in many areas. It will not completely replace it, though, as there will remain things that HTML + JavaScript simply cannot do.

Supported Browsers
Right now we support browsers that support both the video tag in HTML5 and the h.264 video codec. These include:
Google Chrome
Apple Safari (version 4+)
Microsoft Internet Explorer with Google Chrome Frame installed (Get Google Chrome Frame)

HTML5 is a lot more than just the video tag.
But yes, annoying advertisements are one of the main uses of Flash.

It's more than that, but it seems to be making it's appearance there first. There's talk of Hulu adopting HTML5 for iPad users.

I fully support the complete removal of Flash from the Internet (won't happen for a long time). I can't wait until youtube supports Firefox. But seeing this makes me want to check out Chrome...

HTML 5 graphics editor

Very fast running graphics editor. I don't have time to really test its metal, but I'm impressed. It never felt laggy once.

There are some really cool things in here:

HTML5 is much faster than Flash on Linux.
