New computer - Joysticks are seen in Windows, not in D3

Hey ya all.
Long time...
I built a new system. I7 on an x58 based board.
I can dual boot in XP or WIN7.
I have my Sidewinder into a usb adapter, and my usb
CH Pro Throttle installed. They show up in Both
versions of windows. I can calibrate them, test them, etc.
BUT Descent 3 doesn't see them - just dead as a doornail...
any ideas ??
I have started getting a few minutes of Descent again
after a 7 year gap. I still have my last Descent machine, and it still runs, Voodoo 5 amd all - so I can play. I just figure that machine is gonna die - it is like 9 years old. I need to get things working on a newer system.
Take care - thanks

tried running D3 in compatibility mode? Kinda silly I guess since you have multiple boots.
Is your new box USB3?

Very strange. Have you tested this stick with any other games? I'm sure the problem is within D3 but it might rule things out if it does or doesn't work with other games.

Have you run Descent 3 setup? I can't remember if there was a tab in there for selecting the joystick (usually it just works like you would expect). At some point I may just have to install D3 on this W7 box of mine to test everything out.
Long time no see Sickone.

CH Pro Throttle USB did you install CH Manager and the name of the Throttle changed from All CAPS(windows Driver) to Standard Naming?
and do you for some unknown reason have 2 keyboards hooked up?? ps/2 and usb... Descent3 has an issue with this, add in a Nostromo N52 and D3 will not see any joysticks if the N52 is the preferred device.
Also right click \"Devices\" header under Devices and Printers in Win 7 select \"Game Controller Settings\" if you click on a CH device it should say \"you need to use CH Manager\" then click Advanced and set 3dpro as the Preferred Device to make it HID 0 for games \"preferred device\"
Also verify this again after loading a profile into the throttle from the Control Manager. instead of windows automatically assigning \"CH Control Manger Device 1\"
you can get the current CH Control Manager software at the
CH Forums

Thanks guys,
Turns out I am just stupid
In the Joystick/Mouse control config screen,
under the ADJUST SETTINGS the Joystick as an input was not enabled.
FYI, I didn't need to load CH Manager to get this to work. I will need to do that to assign some of my buttons as keyboard inputs. I don't really remember how, but I know I can do it.
Thanks again, I do appreciate the help.
After I get everything squared away on D3 I am going
to try and get d1 and d2 up and running as well.
I may have many more questions, amazing what you forget in 7 years.
Hope you are all well.

CH Manager and CH Print
it uses logical programming - can get complicated if you have lots of ideas... using CMC files is the easiest
Descent Profiles (use the 3rd Party joystick one Dx3DPro.map/cms)
Just drop the whole folder into
Windows 7 - C:\\Users\\<your name>\\Documents\\CH Control Manager\\Maps
Windows XP - C:\\Program Files\\CH Products\\CH Control Manager\\Maps
Delete the ones you don't need), leave the CMC Files and the corresponding .cms file to your .map
Then edit to suit your taste , right clicking a field will give you the ability to "insert a command" which are loaded from CMC file written for each game

Hey ya Bubba,
currently I am still using the gameport to USB adapter you remember. I ordered the Teensy board
yesterday, and it will be here Tuesday.
I had everything else to build the unit. Thanks again to Grendel for his fine work.
I'll tell you this. I have played online maybe a total of 45 minutes now (tough to find games).
Man I suck
I mean I was only fair to begin with, but man after 7 or 8 years of not playing...
Haven't had much luck getting d2x up and running yet. Haven't even tried dx1.
I'll get there... it is a good break for me.
I must admit - I long for the days when 10 or 12 guys came over every week to my place and played for
the evening. Those were good times.

Looks like you are Sirius. Welcome back Sickone. Not hard to find a game if you want to play Varicose Veins. Happens every night for some unDoGly reason.

Hey ya Readyman,
I was thinking about you and some others when I
looked over some pictures of the Lan Party we had
at the company I was at 10 years ago or whatever.
I am still in SoCal. Moved here, what... almost 7 years ago.
I was so buried in my product designs and stuff that I just faded away...
Now I am trying to fade back.
How's everything with you.

Good thanks. Moved to hawaii going on 4 years ago.
Flying Rise of Flight (ww1 airplanes) now. I've become a sim junky with pedals, throttles, and TrackIR. Great fun.
I upgraded to an i7 920 on an Asus P6T board last year.
