Joystick Suggestions

Post by Sapphire Wolf »

Okay, my current Joystick Controller, the Saitek x52 went stale (due to the fact it's 5 years old). Anyways, I definitely need a new joystick. Any Suggestions on what replacement joystick that is suitable for Descent?

All depends on what you want(general purpose, hardcore flight sim, never break) and how much you have to spend (you have mommies c/c). Or you can just buy on the cheap, complain after 3 months rinse and repeat.

Glad I have like 20+ sidewinder Pro 3D's, and a bag
of switches for fixing em when they break.
Figure I am good for life...

Not sure what I'd do if I had to start a new.
I used to bust joysticks so fast it was a joke.

When I did beta testing for Logitech, I could chew through a Wingman in a night or two.

the logitech sticks have great circutry but wiring and pots are so cheap ( 2 strands of tin and 3 strands of nylon inside the sheath) first to go is the R axis which is wired to the base board instead of the short path to the top board. Sickone, I hope you have relocated the positioning of your 3DPro and Pro Throttle to the keyboard tray to avoid a constant bent wrist while playing.

Bubba,

I have not relocated my sticks, but likely I should.
When I quit play 7 years ago, it was mainly due to
work, and life changes. Though my wrists were shot to hell from playing Descent for 7 or 8 years.

I have been playing again for like 3 weeks... guess what hurts... if I play for 30 minutes, I am done.

So a tray may be just the ticket, thanks.

The logitech sticks (back then) would bust mechanically. The Hat was always the thing that busted. If you fixed that, the stick it self would crack/break right off at the base... could have been me :)

Of course the other two guys that used them at my place (Early Asylum days) busted them exactly the same.

Got a desk w/ a keyboard tray that is level w/ my chairs armrest. While playing I have a G13 on the left and the 3DP on the right of the tray, I can play like that for 1.5hrs+ w/o problems. I did have a pic of it somewhere.. Ah. In \"normal mode\".

I may sit away from my screen, but I'm used to it great for sims

(old system)

My Arm from my armrest to the 3DPro my wrist is perfectly level and straight out, no odd bends therefore.

I can sometime go all night long!

When I go to a LAN and I have to put my Joystick on top of a table or desk, I then need to stack like 4 chairs to raise my wrist level or I am in serious pain

3 -22\" Monitors soon on that desk!!

-------------------------------------
This is an example of why I asked

this Setup just SCREAMS PAIN

This is how you place your joysticks if I'm not mistaken

I don't know where I first read the suggestion, but I've always rested my joystick directly on my lap (though the Cyborg Evo requires a board or something else hard to properly support its odd-shaped base). My arm doesn't have to lift at all, so it's quite comfortable.

I know exactly what you mean, except I get tired from all the lifting. Maybe I'm doing it too fast.

Guys... I don't spam anymore!!!!
I do have some dignity!
(okay that was off-topic)
anyways. I'll try to decide which suggestion I'll choose (except for the UForce, that's for the NES)

I'm trying to get my webcam to act as a UForce. It's buggy and requires a lot more processing power, for some reason.
