OK various MR and MS Wizards...
So VirtualBox, so far appears to work well for my basic needs.
The only thing is that on a couple of old programs, which can only display 640x480 and 800x600 respectively. I can only get pixel for pixel.
That is to say that unlike running on an actual XP system where I can get that to scale and fill the screen, I can not in VirtualBox.
Ideas ? Solutions ?
