Spill Baby Spill

I wonder if now that BP, the government (yes, Obama's screwing it up too) and everyone else that said in the past that oil drilling in the ocean was a safe, clean and well run operation and that plenty of safeguards were in place to prevent a major spill, would still be saying now: Drill baby drill!, after this catastrophic mess that we now have in the Gulf of Mexico has happened. Little Sara Palin comes to mind here.

And next time you want to have shrimp from the gulf coast for dinner, clean beaches to visit and pristine wildlife areas for a lot of animals, you can kiss it goodbye for a LOOOOOONG time because they ain't gonna get that mess cleaned up for quite awhile!

Ya it hurts Obamas image, but odds are any opponent he will see was harpen on the \"drill baby drill\" stuff in 08' as well.

Curious the Obama is sending swat teams to the off shore rigs. Perhaps we should re-phrase and say oil rigs are safe unless someone wants to blow them up.

And do you think America is the only country drilling in the Gulf?

Well, I think since it was a “BP” rig that went down…the answer is obvious.

Stuff happens....things break...

You can't be accident proof and you can't wait for an alternative fuel to come knock on your door so, yea, drill baby drill. Learn from the mistakes, make your adjustments, eat shrimp from somewhere else for a while and suck it up without whining about it.

It's not Obama's fault just like it isn't Bush's fault and anyone who wants you to go down one of those trails toting the Kool-Aid cooler is not your friend.

I trust you weren't trying to imply that anyone ever said off-shore drilling was ever risk free, are you? I'm pretty sure that any oil exploration and production company would not tell you that. Any oil exploration is risky' and the deeper the water the riskier it is.

This is certainly a serious incident, no doubt about it. It is going to cost the BP, Transocean and the other participating companies in the rig big bucks. It's going to cost (edit)the industry (/edit) in general some big bucks, not to mention lost reputation. I also have no doubt that these folks want to find out the cause(s) of the platform explosion and fire. They want to know why the blowout preventers have failed to function.

(edited: hey, I had to put the grand niece to sleep)

I think it's likely to cost the general populations more than the companies, they will pass the cost on to their customers. Haven't you notice the spike in the gasoline prices in the last couple of days. Two days ago prices here in Missouri were at 2.69 a gallon now they are at 2.89.
