Ah the perks of doing business with China. China doesn't see cadmium as a bad material like the US does:
I will not be buying anything made in China for our children when we have children. Anyone remember the kid who died after swallowing a cadmium necklace charm given out with Reebok shoes a while back? And China thinks this stuff is harmless. Then there was the toothpaste that had antifreeze in it and the Gyoza which Japan bought from China that also had antifreeze in it(wonder what China's fascination with putting antifreeze in edible products is), and the other childs toys that had lead in them. And the list goes on. I'm sure there are many more things out there in Chinese products that we don't even know about yet.

Zinc, the metal most cited as a replacement for lead in imported jewelry being sold in the United States, is a much safer and nontoxic alternative. But the jewelry tests conducted for AP, along with test findings showing a growing presence of cadmium in other children's products, demonstrate that the safety threat from cadmium is being exported.
