Shouldn't it be name \"The Kung Fu Kid\" since Jackie says I will teach you \"Kung FU\".

yes, but it's marketing. The story is basically the same.

kinda funny though. Okinawa \"karate\" is closer to Kung-fu than it is Japan proper Karate.

Also, there is a myriad of Kung-Fu forms or styles. Just like there are dialects of Chinese.

There is some absolutely GORGEOUS cinematography in this movie. This is also Jaden's \"movie debut\". Watch the credits. There is some great production photos mixed in. :)

Having grown up during the time of the original Karate Kid movies ... both my wife and I have not been interested in this new one at all.

So we went and saw How To Train Your Dragon. Totally enjoyed it, especially Craig Ferguson's character (Gobber).

My brother and I are still reading the book series... very different from the movie.

We can't find where to buy the next one... seems it's sold out everywhere.

I liked this version better than the originals, which I never felt too attached to. Also, I've never seen Jackie Chan act so intense before! This must be his darkest roll, yet. If he gets nominated for something, I wouldn't be surprised.

The 'A-Team', another remake, was weak and stupid.

I don't see any point in remaking movies that were really good to begin with. There is nothing wrong with the original. Make a NEW movie instead of remaking a good old one.

Money?

On a theoretical level, I get your point. On a practical level, they seem to make money on the remakes, so they might as well just keep them rolling.

Why do people remake songs? Why do people buy remade songs? Why do remade songs do so well? Why do people want to remake Descent?

This is different enough to be enjoyable. But, if you have a hang up over this, then i wouldn't recommend it. I liked the first Karate Kid shows (never saw the one with the girl). Many of the elements are the same, but the characters make the movie different enough. While rotten tomatoes averages out a 68% I guess it comes down to what you need to be intertained.

One thing I WILL say is that if you are going to see an action fight movie, don't go. This is not what the movie is about. The messages written into the plot lines are much more subtle than that. Many of the reviewers seemed to have missed that.
In the plain, it's a story about a kid who is moved half way around the world and is trying to keep from getting his butt kicked but learns a whole lot more than Kung-fu along the way. And it was the \"whole lot more\" tha made this movie very enjoyble to me.

It's not aging well though - saw the original yesterday with my kid - not a pretty picture. :P

Sure, the original was overly cheesy and overly '80s, with mediocre acting and production. But for many of us here, it evokes some pretty nostaligic memories.

I saw the original last year... and loved it. :)

Because now days people don't have original ideas so they have to remake everything so they can have success right out of the gate.

BUUZZZ! Wrong!

It's because they like them. I direct you to Hall and Oaks remake of \"You Lost that Lovin feeling\". And excellent remake of an excellent original. :) ;) Geez.. there were a lot of remakes through the 70's that I thought as a kid were originals. :P

What I don't really care for are \"remixes\". Lots of folks like them; it's not my personal pref. And thus I also understand how folks feel about remade movies.
