Trying to help a friend long distance and can't get on his computer.

At this point just like to know if this sounds like a corrupt o.s.

satellite_A105-S4094 running XP.

First it was taking an hour to start (not sure if it ever got up all the way.

Couldn't get on the net. Maybe all processes hadn't loaded yet.

Then he's now getting these error messages.
-------------------------------------------------
SYCHOST.EXE-APPLICATION ERROR
The instructions at \" 0x73411743\" reference memory\" 0x733e133c\".the required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of \"0xc000009c\"

click on OK to terminate the program.

AUTO UPATER SERVICE MODULE

AUTO UPATER SERVICE MODULE HAS ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. WE ARE SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE
PLEASE TELL MICROSOFT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.
-----------------------------------------------

I see some fixes for the above but don't want to start putting band-aids on a corrupt system.

Does this sound like a re-install?

Might save your sanity. It looks likely that something is corrupt.

Yeah, windows needs a clean install about once every two years to stay fresh.

You have lots of friends with lots of computer trouble.

Thanks for the posts.

And yes it's like owning a truck, sooner or later all your friends end up needing one and sooner of later all my friends have computer problems and I'm happy to assist......... with DescentBB's help, of course.
