Using Hamachi software

I've installed Hamachi on my home computer and added it my laptop.
I'd like to use the software on my laptop when I'm out of town and on un-secured wifi spots.
I can \"chat between the two computers and can ping from the home computer but not from the laptop.
How do I know if it's working, is there a test I can do?
Since I have wifi in the house how can I test to see if I'm going through my home computer.
