Try booting into VGA safemode, uninstall the nVidia driver and run Driver Cleaner. Reinstall your favorite nVidia driver. Warning: do this at your own risk ! This procedure has potential to damage your installation !

Edit: also make sure that the driver you install is the right one for you OS and supports your card (check the INF file)..

Grendel, the Dets still offer support for pre-TNT cards. I think his FX5600 is supported. ;)

Just making sure -- I grabbed a Quadro driver by accident once and it went thru the installation motions but never got installed. Same happens if you try to install the 95/98/Me version on 2k/XP IIRC. Oh, and the earliest chip supported is the NV05, RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro -- which reminds me that I came along a beta driver w/o M64 (NV05, dev 2D.1) support the other day. Same effect on my work machine. ;)

UPDATE: Riva was the cause, it is a older version and im updating that now.

SECOND UPDATE: it wasnt just riva, i had to SafeVGA mode XP, uninstall Riva, uninstall NVidia drivers..reinstall monitor driver, then NVidia, and i skipped Riva, rebooted....same thing, so i went sys restore....works fine now.

i wonder WTF Happend?

Use Driver Cleaner 3 and clean the Nvidia files located in the following locations (1)drivers(system32), (2)driver.cab and (3)sp1.cab .. buh buy all previous drivers load up the new. easy as an 845G/ICH4 chipset Mr VG31

#2 and #3 is what gets you in trouble

and not to mention the onboard video you have..stop playing in the bios your not going to get anything out of that HP/FIC board

guess what......I NEVER ENABLED ONBOARD VIDEO!!! i turned that off, the moment i first plugged this system in. not to mention tweaked a few things. and i dont have the factory BIOS on this mobo, its fully updated and has new features that the HP Version took out, with the FIC Version running. so take you soooo-called know-it-all self somewere else and leave my system alone. you are not the all-knowing-god, but neither am i, but you keep flaming stuff up and expect me not to respond.....check yourself, its you who keeps this crap going.
