Only seeing 2GB

Post by thewolfe »

Installed a second 2 GB of RAM (DDR2-800) in Dell Inspiron 1545. Win7 Home 64 bit. Pent(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30 GHz.

Only sees 2GB. Went into Setup and then exited. Do I have to go anywhere in setup or just onto the first screen and then exit?

Make sure you save in the bios setup. It could be the new ram is not compatible with your computer. You got the same speed? Try the same brand if it doesn't work.

Also, try putting it in a different slot. If it doesn't work just take it back and try a different one.
Why doesn't it work?

Make sure it's seated in the clips right and make sure you can see it in the bios. Dell Inspiron 1545 should accept ddr2 800 memory. Seeing how that is what the specs for that laptop call for ion memory. It should take up to 8 gigs of memory.

Also when in doubt, test the sticks individually. Meaning take the old memory out entirely and test the new memory alone.
