Ok, ok, I'll be the first to ask:
WTF is that?
I didn't know it was Cinco De Mayo until...just now. Apparently, I missed a party or seven.

A sort of Independence Day celebrated by Mexican-Americans.

Yeah, we seem to give it more attention every year then even the Mexicans that live in Mexico do. You know, that whole anally rententive "Must be politically correct and racially trendy" sort of thing we Americans do

"The holiday of Cinco De Mayo,
The Fifth Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, but is also celebrated in other parts of the country and in U.S.cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think,
Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually
September 16."

I was in Mazatlan for Cinco de Mayo about 12 years ago. Nobody knew it was a holiday. They thought we were all crazy Americans for wondering where the parade was.
Eventually my grandpa found out that the battle is celebrated at the battleground and in Mexico City, and that's about it. It was kind of disappointing...

Yep, it's not much of a deal anymore to celebrate beating the French army. I mean, who hasn't?

Fun facts about Texas:
Texas was once a country, March 2nd is Texas Independence Day.
When Texas joined the Union the first time, a clause was included that allowed the state to suceed at any time, but since it joined the Confederacy during the Civil War and was defeated it is considered conquered territory and lost its right to suceed.
(many of us Texans reserve the right to finish that fight alone if we see fit
)
Texas is also the only state that is allowed to fly its state flag at the same height as the U.S. flag.

You disgruntled bastige.
El cinco de mayo is celebrated by Mexicans, not just "Mexican-Americans." And as far as celebration goes, I have one thing to say:
Frankly, my dear, I don't give a n00b. ^_~
But I think Mexican food is yummy. :; ^_^ ;:
