A friend has a USB headset that's not working. I thought they could remove the driver from the Device Mgr and then have the computer install it again but I don't know how to tell which HID it is to delete. Any way to tell or program that shows what HID or USB device is for what?

Uhm, a headset isn't a HID. But, try usbview.

The config data should give you enough info to identify the device.

Also, if you plug it into a different port windows will treat it as a new device (if it wasn't plug into that port before.)

If it doesn't show up under "Sound controllers" in the device manager the HS is broken. Search for "how to display all installed devices in the device manager", then identify & uninstall it (won't fix anything tho ;P)

Is this person trying to plug the headset into a front panel connector? Depending on the design, sometimes some of these front panel connectors don't provide enough juice to power certain devices (ie: Amazon Kindles). You might want to try plugging it directly into the motherboard itself, and see if it works.
