Anyone get an Extreme 3D Pro(Logitech) working with Rebirth?

Seeing if I can get this js working before I buy an adapter for the 3dpro. Anyone have any success? Right now the js just spins around in circles. Fact is, I can't even remember what action is bound to which movement on the js.
Anyone think it's possible to edit the file with the js settings to force it to work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

operating system?

If you have more than one controller plugged into your computer, you can change your preferred game controller to Controller ID 0 ("preferred device" ) .
This includes keyboard emulator hardware ie: N52/G13-Gameboard/ Wolf Board..........

Here's how:

Windows 7/Vista

1. Open Devices and Printers by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then, on the Start menu, clicking Devices and Printers.
2. Right-click the game controller, and then click Game controller settings.
3. In the list of controllers, click the one you want, and then click Advanced.
4. In the list of devices, click your preferred device, and then click OK.

Windows XP/ME/98/95b

Step 1~ Game Controller applet is located in your control panel,
Step 2 not used
Step 3,4 = same as above

I used to have one of those sticks, and I remember it working just fine with Rebirth.

Have you gone into the config to set the axes? (Remember to center the throttle control beforehand.)

I haven't messed around with it. I tried calibrating before with no luck. But... I ordered a gameport to USB for my SW, so hopefully that will work. Bub, Win7@64. I spaced mentioning that before.
Thanks for the replies.

Complete failure trying to get my 3d pro (MS) to work on a gameport. Completely unrecognized by the OS. :(

Did you see this thread ? The MS 3D Pro will not work w/ most general GamePort-USB converters.

Sounds like Knopi went directly into a gameport.

Unfortunately, Knopi, gameports are not supported in Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Try that Logitech again (see advice above). It'll work, I promise.

Foil, is there any way I can just add the parameters to the .plx file without having to set it up in-game?

Gren, that's just way too much effort for me to try to get the old js to work. Thanks for the info though :)

I suppose it's possible, assuming the format of .plx files is published somewhere.

But why? It's *easy* to set up in-game. Center the throttle (prevents erroneous throttle detection), go to each axis you want in the "Configure Joystick" menu, hit Enter, turn/twist the stick when prompted, and you're done.

The whole reason I started the thread was because I can't configure the js to work.
My .plx file looks like this:

Code: Select all

[weapon reorder]
primary=0x4,0x3,0x2,0x1,0x0,0xff
secondary=0x4,0x3,0x1,0x0,0xff,0x2
[end]
[weapon keys]
1=0x2,0xff
2=0x3,0xff
3=0x4,0xff
4=0x5,0xff
5=0x6,0xff
6=0x7,0xff
7=0x8,0xff
8=0x9,0xff
9=0xa,0xff
0=0xb,0xff
[end]
[cycle keys]
cycle primary=0xff,0xff
cycle secondary=0xff,0xff
[end]
[joystick]
sensitivityx=8
sensitivityy=8
deadzone=0
[end]
[mouse]
sensitivityx=8
sensitivityy=8
filter=0
[end]
[cockpit]
mode=0
hud=0
[end]
[toggles]
reticle=1
persistentdebris=0
prshot=0
[end]
[opengl]
oglalphaeffects=1
oglreticle=1
[end]
[plx version]
plx version=0.56.0
[end]
[end]
Could you paste yours so I can compare and try it? Thanks.

Sorry, it's been too long, I don't have that .plx anymore.

You said you can't configure it in-game. Why not? Are you getting an error? What's happening?

P.S. I will make you a wager that the problem is one of the following:

1. Your "preferred game controller" isn't set. (See Bubbalou's post above.)

2. You don't have the throttle centered when trying to configure. (See my posts above. This causes the throttle axis to pop in every time you try to configure an axis, and would explain why the ship just spins.)

3. the sticks pots are worn out. The LT 3D Pro Extreme is notorious for that.

Ah, a possibility, but I'd still wager it's #2:

I have two main issues. One is, I can't remember which bindings go to which movements on the js. Also, I hardly touch the js and the key binds to the same position on every key be it twist or axis. It's quite annoying really. And then of course, the movement in game is just spinning and moving backwards without touching the stick. I am pretty close to just bagging the whole thing, but I figured if I could get the correct .plx hack, I would just edit that since that would rule out any mistakes.
As far as I can tell, the js works fine with BF2, so I am not sure whether the pots have worn out or not, but it is preforming normally in that game.

have you checked the game controllers control panel under devices and printers yet and set it to be the preferred device???

Okay, I've already said this multiple times, but I'll say it once more:

When you configure your joystick controls, center your throttle first.

How do I make this more clear? The reason the bind jumps to the same thing every time is that your throttle is all the way forward or back, so the game thinks that is the axis you are trying to set. Centering the throttle will fix this.
Knopi wrote:And then of course, the movement in game is just spinning and moving backwards without touching the stick.
Exactly! You didn't have the throttle centered when you tried to configure, so it ended up binding the turn to the throttle axis.

To see this: Launch the game, is your ship spinning? If so, center the throttle, your ship will stop spinning.

-----------

...Is this clear enough?

Ok, after messing around some more, I did get it to work. However, it seems like one of my keys is stuck. When I hit the capslock key to slide left, it just keeps sliding. Any help for this?

Knopi, make absolutely sure you have the throttle centered. If it's off-center, it will cause those issues.

If that's not the issue, here's what you do:

Turn/twist the axis you want before you hit the key to bind the axis. (E.g. if you want to bind the left/right axis to yaw, hold the stick all the way left, move the cursor to the yaw setting, then bind it.)

It will work.

I got that bro! I think the capslock is causing some of my previous issues with going backwards as I mistook that movement for a js issue.

It's cool it's working, but the sliding left is really bad. Now I have to find a solution to that.

Yeah, using CapsLock for sliding can be problematic.
