I'm taking an art history class and, since the class is dominated by art majors, we had the option to draw something for a few extra credit points.
It had to incorporate any of the art pieces we covered, before 500 ce, this semester, to modernize
Here's mine. I think it look good considering I didn't have much time to work on it; this semester is crazy.

I like it. Shading feels very like dusk.

Did you have anything in particular in mind when you made it? (Just curious.)

Oh yes. The Victory of Samothrace is one of the most visually powerful sculptures. The odd thing about it is, it's missing the arms and head. So when I was in the process of deciding if I should incorporate it into my project, or go with something else to modernize, I tried to find completed versions of it. There are many different attempts in reproducing it in its original form, but, to me, they never were able complete it while keeping it's movement and power intact, that the broken version emits. So with my modernization, the assignment, I decided it would be best to go in the opposite direction of what everyone else was doing. I added the angel its missing parts but puts head and arms down, instead of up, and closed its eyes, which in art communicates death or despair. Instead of being the center of the image I put her walking away. Though the body is a trace, placed on top of jagged rocks and tall reeds, it appears she's walking slowly and risks tripping, while the broken version appears to move forward with power.

This modern version, despite the title, shows an angel, with some modern accessories, turning her back on the world in failure or just fatigue. Instead of long beautiful hair she cut her hair short and looks less beautiful, as if she had a hard life on Earth.
