An Egyptian speaks...

...will anyone listen?
Ibrahim, an Egyptian American of Coptic Christian upbringing, holds that there can be no such thing as a “moderate” Islam. If Muslims adhere to the Quran, he said, they are compelled to engage in jihad or “struggle”— by persuasion, deceit or violence, if necessary — so Islam can triumph.

“To a Muslim, jihad means a certain kind of struggle — spreading and empowering Islam against non-Muslims,” Ibrahim told students and local residents who crowded the lecture hall. “Peace with non-Muslims is a provisional state only.”

Ibrahim invoked a notion from Islamic theology called “taqiyya,” which allows Muslims to lie in certain circumstances. Ibrahim argued that taqiyya is broadly used by apparently moderate Muslims whose real aim is to convert and control others.

dontcha just love it, when folks buy a 'definition' of Muslim thought from a Coptic Christian. It's sort of like when Liberals tell you what Conservatives think, or Glenn Beck defines 'Progressive'. In other word, it's very obviously biased crap.

Yea that is definitely a broad brush he's painting with there...too bad so many influential Islamo-fascists find themselves covered with that paint.
I wish the cultures governed by Islam had been able to make the switch to a democracy trumps religion kind of system like the western world has because as corrupt and hostile as man's law can be it is easier to rein in when the ones dishing out the abuse and murder don't have a god to hide behind!

Oh obviously- especially when liberals kill republicans, burn down their homes and rape and murder their families.

'Coptic' Christians are being exterminated in Egypt. Do a little reading.

It would seem TB's OP was not far off:

"Muslim-Christian sectarian violence intensified in Egypt this weekend, spurring an emergency meeting of the Cabinet and public exhortations from Coptic Christians for international protection.

At least 12 people were killed and 232 others were wounded in sectarian clashes outside a Cairo church, according to state TV. Officials said violence began over rumors that a Christian woman who converted to Islam was being held at the church against her will.

Problems between Egypt's Muslim majority and its Coptic Christian minority have been on the rise in recent months, with a number of violent clashes reported between the two groups. Tensions flared after a recently-published U.S. government report on international religious freedom detailed the hostility targeting the minority Copts in the predominantly Muslim society."

I am perfectly aware of the issues around that, both in Eqypt and in other parts of the region. However, the writer doesn't say, "Muslims are attacking our churches and that is wrong", he rants away about why the religion makes it somehow mandatory. Big difference in argument.

Yea, because stating the obvious always trumps trying to explain the reason* behind something.

*Correct or not.
