So uh... what is it?
The thing weighs a lot for its size. Notice my pinking bending the wrong way...
I'm gonna eat it tonight.

My vote is a gourd of some sort.
I'm not much of a gardener, but I'd guess that it won't kill you, but neither will it taste very good.

I didn't eat it yet.
Ok, so stir fry it then? I could even eat a space alien if it were stir fried.
I did a search on gourds. I can't find anything that looks like this....
Still, uh. It's not a Cucumber-pumpkin?

It's a melon and there are several different varieties. Just wrap some Prosciutto around chucks of it and eat.

hmmm.... a melon??
Google images lets you search by dragging an image into the search box. Perhaps if I photograph the leaf, this evening, I can get a match.

More specifically, it looks like a pumpkin.

Clue:
It grew off a vine that had climbed up a tree. This green-pumpkin-like thing was suspended in the air, instead of laying on the ground. This might have effected its shape.

We've had random pumpkin and gourd plants growing out back from the remains of the previous year's Halloween decorations. It's fun to see something like that just start taking over the whole garden.

It's an immature pumpkin. Just Google that term and you'll see something similar.

Chunks are used in soup recipes, especially when the whole is small and immature, or pieces may be fried or steamed. Custard is steamed in small, whole buttercup pumpkins, and cooled slices are served as a sweet. This is a classic sold by street vendors specializing in sweets. The dessert is also popular throughout Thailand.
Saawweeeeet!!!!!
