Ibuprofen question.
Ibuprofen question.
Do you ever feel a little off when you take Ibuprofen? Like you just don't feel sharp or something?
I can't find anything like this listed as a normal side effect.
This is what happens to me (Wow isaac, you must be on it all the time... Duur huur huur duurrr huur), so I try to avoid the stuff whenever possible.

Re: Ibuprofen question.
Nope, can't say that Ibuprofen ever effected me that way. How many pills did you take???
In case you didn't know, some people are allergic to Ibuprofen (two of my kids are allergic to it). Don't know if what you're feeling is a symptom of that, but be advised.

What were you taking them for? Why weren't you feeling well to begin with?

Head Aces or mussel aches.
1 to 2 pills depending on level of pain. I never take more than that during a month.TechPro wrote:Nope, can't say that Ibuprofen ever effected me that way. How many pills did you take???

Re: Ibuprofen question.
Try using acetaminophen instead. If you get the pain relief without the unwanted side effects, use it instead of Ibuprofen.

Re: Ibuprofen question.
acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) has some concerns regarding liver damage. Regardless of the "overdose" information listed in the article, my mother-in-law has significant liver damage due to acetaminophen.
Not saying you shouldn't take it, but just something to be aware of.

Re: Ibuprofen question.
Only really an issue if you take a lot of it IIRC - occasional use isn't anything to worry about.
Re: Ibuprofen question.
That is correct, and it isn't like Ibuprofen doesn't have it's own risks (gastro-intestinal, ulcers, etc.). Again, the risk is always much higher when the medication is not used according to instructions.

Re: Ibuprofen question.
Prolonged use (with higher doses of say 600mg or so) will put you at risk of live and kidney damage. (similar to Tylenol)

By the way, acetaminophen is a pain killer, while Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. 2 different mechanisms of action.

Too be honest, I don't know all the exact details - I do believe it was within doctor recommended doses though.
I was just sharing it so people can be aware.

Re: Ibuprofen question.
Do you know how long she was taking it?
Re: Ibuprofen question.
Nope - literally I was taking it one time, and she simply told me her doctor had told her to take some for a little while, and now she has liver damage.

Re: Ibuprofen question.
After some searching, it looks like the maximum daily dose of 4000 mg, or eight 500 mg pills, taken for only 2 weeks can be toxic to the liver. That's quite a lot to take of the stuff. To "fix" the problem, they're lowering the maximum daily dose to 3000 mg, or six 500 mg pills. That's still a lot to be taking of something potentially damaging to the liver, especially for a long time. Whenever I use it, I try to stay under 1000 mg per day and I usually take only one 500 mg pill in any single day. Excedrin works great for headaches, but that's because it also contains caffeine, which boosts the painkilling power of acetaminophen. The downside is that this combo makes it more likely to cause liver damage in those higher doses.
