System Restore: .!.. spyware
Man, people who make programs to install on your computer without consent should be put to painful public humiliation! This is my first encounter with spyware; I went to a site to get a game patch for my sister and a whole bunch of pop-ups came up, after that the funny stuff started happening (things popping up on restart + several EXEs running in the background), and finally I found 6-7+ programs that I had not installed in the "Add and Remove programs" area. I discovered that the EXEs, along with a few other files, were dated 5/12/04 (today), so I did a system restore--all taken care of.
System Restore really does come in handy!

Grab adaware. If you also have antivirus software, you should be fine...

Don't these companies (Gator) have physical addresses? And no one's leveled the building? Just think..who would be prosecuted? The FBI would have to go through (persons that received email spam) + (Persons that got raped with adware) + (Persons that installed Realplayer). That's, what, 350 million suspects? Just wear gloves and a hat, and take a shower with an exfoliating brush first!

I say give them the same punishment that any spam company should get. The death penalty.

System Restore was the perfect solution in this case, as I haven't made any system changes recently. I don't have any experience with anti-spyware programs yet, and System Restore was a good clean-sweep.. actually, I realize now that I still have remnants of these things on my hard drive--just not in my system. Maybe I'll give some of those programs a look. Thanks.
P.S. Is the DBB going slow for anyone else?

Also get mozilla to block pop-ups.

IE will soon be able to do it
natively, although most people have been using at least the google toolbar for quite some time.

That small popup-blocking notification banner better be able to be turned off. I don't want to see an extra strip of crap when a popup is blocked, just block the damn thing.

Of course it can.
