Repudiation

What was at first thought to be a rubber stamp replacement for Anthony "The Weiner" Weiners congressional seat by another Democrat, has fallen to a republican. While Democratic hacks like our very own Slick will try to downplay the vote, the vote results will have a chilling affect on sitting democrats as they come up for vote in the 2012 November elections. Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, endorsed Turner in July as a way to "send a message" to Obama on his policies toward Israel. The Jews responded. It would seem Obama's throwing the state of Israel under the bus didn't sit to well with the Jewish voters. As a OP ED by a Jewish writer goes:

"Great promise turns into catastrophe as Obama leads world into abyss; can we have Bush back?"
Yigal Walt

Still the vote goes beyond just the Jewish vote.

The district in point was and is a heavy democratic district. You would have to look a awful long way back in history to find a republican congressman voted into office. Much like Scott Brown in Massachusetts and the great republican win last November, the Bob Turner win in New York is another nail in the Obama coffin come the 2012 election. Look for more democrats siding with republican and tea party members of congress as they will view having anything to do with Obama as the proverbial kiss of death. Anyone here still think Obama has a snowballs chance in hell of winning in 2012?

He got elected because of Islamophobia, fear-mongering and liberal disillusionment with Obama, not because he's the better candidate. Fear and apathy, weapons of choice that Republicans like wielding to win elections.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Israel. They seem fully capable of defending themselves and they have the bomb. I care more about your welfare woodchip than I do for a bunch of christ killers on the other side of the planet.

not quite accurate. What you had was a heavily Jewish district that wanted to send a message to Obama and the rest of the administration re:Israel/Palestine policy. I said this elsewhere, and I'll do it here: I will guarantee you all that this district will return to the Dems in the regular election next November. The only caveat is whether there will be a district, as it might be eliminated by re-apportionment.

I agree with you on two of your 3 point slick. I am not sure however about a Guarantee of it going back Dem, although that is a strong possibility. but in the end it's not going to matter the district wont be there.

No TB, I'm saying I care more about the welfare of my fellow Americans that I do about another country. Israel has shown themselves as more than capable to do what they need and I just don't feel like they should be our number one concern. I'd rather keep American bridges from collapsing with people on them, fix American schools, fix American healthcare, fix the American economy, and so forth. Is it really that scandalous of a notion that you have to reference the Nazis?

Israel does a lot for helping America, they buy many of our fancy high tech weapons which helps keep American jobs going.

Weren't the Jews responsible for Christ's death? That's what Mel Gibson's movie said.
