So, they haven't stated what it is yet, or is it just the next release with extra hype?
Wikipedia seems to think it's just 11.10... which no longer includes gnome at all but has two versions of unity. Interestingly, it also means no more synaptic - so I guess "software center" becomes the default package manager? I always avoided software center back when I used ubuntu.
I guess I'm become a fringe Linux user.... I'd like to think "fringe" means "actually knows what his OS is doing."
I have been meaning to give
Enlighenment another whirl to see how it's doing these days. If I don't move to enlightenment, I may actually go in the other direction to a tiled WM. I'm getting bored with Openbox.

Won't the terminal with apt-cache search or apt-cache show still work?

Hmm. I wonder what it's all about. Very effective advertising though.
Nothing in the source to give me a clue about it either. I was hoping that some person had dropped a clue there.
