G+ might actually stand a chance. I was about to opt out of it.
A while back I was ranting about public posts on G+ not being friendly to those who only wanted to circle for specific topics. Now that's an option.

I have registered there I think. I'm planning to use it more for work though -- in fact I registered there because my "boss" hinted to me that I should.
