I got a good chuckle out of my kids today, got the two older ones hooked up on Descent 1, and they love it!
.... though I'm not so sure the wife is as pleased as I am:

It's just a new cool little game until the Thief bot steals that cool new weapon you found. Then it's personal.

Sadly my daughter is a Mario freak and doens't play anything hard. And it's hard finding anyone who can handle the 6 degrees of freedom in Descent compared to FPS.

Can't wait till they're ready for multi-player........
(Wish I'd started at that age too)

Yea, keyboard right off, gonna have to get at least one of them a joystick one of these days, though my daughter does alot better on the mouse now. It'll be a while before they're ready for much more than co-op on easy as far as multiplayer goes tho, you'll notice I have the invuln cheat turned on, they haven't learned to dodge yet!

I flew around for about a year with the invuln cheat, before I learnt to dodge.
Anyone else do the same? Or did you all dive in and do the whole lot?

I didn't start playing till D3 - I think I got through the first 7 levels before using cheats. I always used to get halfway through games then use cheats

My 3-year-old loves playing Descent with me. I'm starting him slow - for now I have the movement controls, and I let him use the joystick a bit.

Think I started Descent at 10... don't recall needing cheats except for the level 7 boss. Until I game back a year or two later when I'd already done the multiplayer thing.
Mouse can be a surprisingly effective controller - I use that by itself these days and can outmanuever most joystick pilots.

Be sure to get a copy of Descent 1.0 for them to cut their teeth on that overpowered level 7 boss. They seriously nerfed it with the 1.4a patch.

I still have my original disc from when it first came out. It was like the first game I ever bought that came on a CD, I remember being so excited about that.
