Why do you go to a museum to take photos of famous art when there are better photos of it on the internet, taken by someone that owns a camera worth more than 80 bucks. I understand taking a photo with you appearing next to the famous work of art. No, stupid tourist, you're taking a photo of JUST that artwork. Good job: fail.
edit:
New years resolution is to insult people who ride the elevator instead of walking/running on it.

Could be they wanted to learn how to take better photos themselves. Another possible reason could be to record information about the artwork so they can more easily look it up (and possibly download better pics) when they get home. And another is because they are simply making a "history", of what they did on their vacation, or on their life. They don't want the photo because they want something super high quality, they want the photo so when they look back through the photos for that date, they can say, "Oh yes, we went to the museum and saw that!"
I'm not saying any of these are the most common reason, mind you, I'm just saying there COULD be legitimate reasons to do this.

You just can't let me be grouchy, can't you?
I got my picture WITH the new world trade center being built. I'm in the picture with the building in the background, which is cool. I can say, look at me, I was there 50 years ago while it was still being built!
I got to see el salvador dali's melting clocks: very cool. Many people were taking photos next to it. Others were not. They just wanted a photo of it, for some reason. I just got really close and admired it.

You can be MOSTLY grumpy. Because MOST of the time people take pictures of stupid things and then never look at them again anyway...

Being an amateur photography with a $2500 camera set, I take pics because I enjoy it and want the memories and not someone elses.
