I have been watching Sons Of Guns, American Guns and the Military channel alot. I've noticed that alot of these custom armaments are being sold to private citizens so it got me to thinking. As long as you have the right licenses and the money for the yearly permit, you can own just about any weapon you want. As long as you have alot of money.

now for my serious reply: Sadly, I don't encounter very many folks in that demographic who have any such concerns at all. The article does point out that the key source(Insite Security) has a vested interest in fear. However, personally, much of my thinking is based on trying to keep the nation from evolving to the point where my grandchildren have to live in such fear. One reason I may not encounter such is that many of my well-off friends are folks with lots of land, which sort of insulates one from the fear mentioned. Perhaps if I knew more folks with primary residences in cities, my experience would differ. Still, whenever I try to vocalize my longer term fears for such violence, I get a response along the lines of, "It doesn't worry me, those with the money end up with the guns.....".

It turns out he wasn’t alone. A new survey from Insite Security and IBOPE Zogby International of those with liquid assets of $1 million or more found that 94% of respondents are concerned about the global unrest around the world today.

Fully 90% of respondents have a negative view of the current global economic climate and 41% say they have little or no faith that the U.S. will be able to right itself in this fiscal climate.

Calm down Slick. I didn't say you were part of the survey. I was just outside today, building a front porch on my house on one glorious 80 degree day .

actually, Flip I would agree with the premise that the world economy has real issues and DEFINITELY am pessimistic that the US will recover before completely going to crap(most likely to come from rubes buying into the 'rugged individualist' view of a social contract, and discovering too late that they've been hosed). Likewise, most folks I know, wealthy and otherwise might agree. Where I disagree is with the view that the wealthy live in fear, or change their lifestyles whatsoever based on those assumptions. The folks I know along the lines described don't vacation in places likely to have any issues of violence, don't travel all that often on public carriers and definitely don't invest in dumbass crap like overpriced guard dogs or outside security expertise......

Well, all I can tell you is a good portion probably are. I know of one that just strapped a Minigun to the side of his helicopter.

Of course the wealthy are arming themselves, all thru history the wealthy have armed themselves, why should this point in history be any different.

In fact thru most of history, the wealthy were the only ones who could afford weapons, and many societies even had laws prohibiting the peons from having weapons.

Whether it’s for outright oppression, or a hedge against when the ★■◆● hits the fan and mobs of angry people don their pitchforks and sharpened poles…

But history also shows…the futility of it.

I didn't even read the article and I don't know who you are talking about, but there is no "real security issue" that can be resolved by fitting a minigun to a helicopter.

Doing it because they can, or for the sport of blowing up ★■◆● from a helicopter, that I could understand as just having too much money, not enough sense and just goofing off. But if they are doing it because they think it will fix some perceived security issue, then they most certainly are an idiot.

I laughed at that one! Very true. Better stated, there is no security issue which necessitates the fitting of a mini-gun to a helicopter. Unless he plans to hover over his estate and mow down the thousands of hungry zombies coming his way, there is no conceivable, non-military defensive scenario that must be met with a mini-gun-equipped helo. If that many people want to kick your ass, you're probably better off getting out of the country.

seriously, why would he want a weaponized chopper? Parolling a large property might be marginally feasable, but seems like a very cost-ineffective way to do so. Also, you now own a chopper you cannot use in the public airspace legally. Hence my comment.

I still think it is a dimwitted thing to do. Of course, it's a free country, but the purpose is elusive, at best.....
On the subject of 'the rich' arming themselves, the point that they always have done so is valid. Moreover, it is usually a case not so much of personal arms, but of hiring adequate, reliable henchmen.

hell, no, Thorne.....I don't even lock my doors, most of the time, as I just explained to some anti-immigrant gun nut on another forum. Still, a look at history and even contemporary situations(think Mexico and Russia) shows the wealthy merely hire security minions, pay them well, and carry on from there. If you look back at how things worked in the MIddle Ages, what you had were serfs dependent for basic food and shelter from the rich guy( Prince, Duke, whatever) and from their ranks came the fighters that defended the territory. Let the Ron Pauls and Paul Ryans have their way with our economy, and things will work that way in another couple of generations, except that you will have massive congregations of unclaimed 'serfs' in urban areas, which might be a bit messy to deal with.

Lol, the first one was enough for me . I sleep with my doors and windows unlocked. I'm a light sleeper and crazy enough to believe I'm untouchable. Everyone is gonna die. If you died when you were 4 or 84 it won't matter after your dead. Come in my house and we will find out who gets there first . If it's the guy with the minigun on his helicopter, I'll see you when you get there.
