Of Death Panels and Unions

We have talked about some of this before but it is stunning to see how life will be like under Obamacare, especially if you work for the Govt.:
"The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched."
http://freebeacon.com/trashing-tricare/
Once again Obama is bowing to his Union overlords and throwing under the bus our troops who get paid significantly less. Perhaps it is time for the military to become unionized just like fireman and police are. Interesting to see what would happen if they went on strike. Perhaps we should all form a union just to get equal treatment. Of course those here whose sun rises and sets around Obama, will tut tut this away and ignore the possible results.

I don’t believe it would be legal for the military to be unionized.

I say, if the government involuntarily drafts people to fight wars, the taxpayers should pay for their health care. But if they volunteer to go to war, like they do now, they pay for their own, like the rest of us.

If you're still in the military then, like any job, you should have healthcare. But if you're not, go pay for it yourself. Sit here and ★■◆● about other people mooching off the gubmint when you're doing the same thing.

Na, I disagree. If someone volunteers a certain amount of their time to the defense of this country, they deserve 2 things. Just my opinion and only to those with honorable discharges. A home loan and a small business loan for a viable business.
ErP: Blame the Snapping Turtle:P. Hmm healthcare, damn unless every American can make a decent wage and support himself, I guess we have to accept the socialism offered to us and at least expect we can receive comprehensive care.

that's the way it is now, with the exception of those who get injured.

Aren't you guys the same ones that complained that auto workers had healthcare built into their retirement plans? It's the same thing here. Defense budget is nearly a trillion dollars, if you guys want a smaller outlay of the government, ★■◆● things are going to happen. The military is not, and should not, be immune to spending cuts.

You had no problem with civilian contractors making boatloads of money in Iraq, so civilian workers here in the states get what they get. So a colonel has to pay more for health insurance, welcome to life. No free rides.

I'm not going to cry if Petraeus has to pay a little bit more for his health care along with the retirees of the military. Unions should protect their members from losing benefits like this...people know what they are doing when they join the service. Oh ★■◆●ing well.

I think that healthcare should continue for a U.S. soldier as long as they are a soldier, and then any injuries gotten while serving should warrant extended care for the duration of that injury/issue and anything directly related. Beyond that it's not really something you can compromise on from a monetary perspective. It's a matter of responsibility.
I might feel differently when it comes to career soldiers. In that case maybe there should be a split-pay setup.

so let me get this right!!
You say Military people should have to pay for their health-care.
and at the same time you say it's OK for the Unions and their members to force business to pay for their members health-care??
so in other-words, if the Military unionized then you'd be OK with them retaining their benefits. correct?

If they don't like their benefits, can't they just get another job elsewhere? Isn't that what you guys always say??
Oh and it's asking them to pay more...no free rides. gotta cut spending somewhere

Put to you this way...if a program like Headstart is wasteful spending and should be cut, then I don't see any reason why a retired colonel can't pay more for his retiree healthcare.

I say, let the
Military do everything for themselves, like they
used to do during wars in the past, and get rid of all private for profit contractors. It would get rid of the unions AND save the taxpayer some cash. A win, win for everyone.

nah dude. i only dump on you.
but most of the topics I would post here, I bring up with other people face to face. It's better that way.
as for 'don't open it'? who's gonna tell you that you're off your rocker if I don't? wouldn't be slick, you don't listen to him. besides... this place is all sorts of crazy now. The asylum's doors are unlocked and the populace is running around still straitjacketed, laughing their heads off.
