Looks like glass on a car window, but I'm going to guess it's the dry salt beds of the once fluid economy we once had. Did I get it?

In that case, I guess some sort of a closeup (SEM?) of a metal surface.

I'll guess that the material is steel, that what's in view is a martensitic cross-section of a break where the material failed in sheer.
