How do I turn off the "baloon" tip that icons are being hidden in system tray.
I want them hidden I just don't want to be notified.

What kind of balloon tips are you getting? That stupid "Desktop Cleaning Wizard" alert? You can turn that off in your desktop properties easily. (under customize desktop)

Its the balloon tips that show up when XP tries to notify you about something in the system tray MD.
thewolfe, open regedit and do the following:
Go to...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Create a new DWORD value (or modify the value, if it exists) called EnableBalloonTips and set the value to 0. Exit regedit, and restart or log out for the changes to take effect.
Just be careful with regedit. I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong
Doing this will disable the balloon tip dialog from displaying to notify you about other things altogether.
I think it also disables balloon tips from being displayed anywhere in windows. There isn't a specific way for you to stop it from showing that specific notice unless you turned icons back on.
Atleast not that I know of.
btw, google is your friend...

I dont spose anyone know how to do this in win2k do they? I tried this and it didnt work after logging off. I'd like to eliminate the balloon tips that pop up when a network connection changes state from connected to disconnected. I'd like the tray icon to change, but not that annoying balloon tip.

Ohh, you can turn off hidden icons by clicking the start button, going to settings and clicking on "Taskbar and Start Menu". Uncheck "Hide inactive icons". (This is assuming you have the n00bish menu turned off and you're using the classic menu.)
If you left the ugly ass new menu style enabled:
Click on start, and click on "Control Panel'. Double-click on "Taskbar and Start Menu" and uncheck "hide inactive icons". (If you have the "Category View" enabled, click on "Appearance and Themes" and THEN double-click on "Taskbar and Start Menu") just FYI.
